Privacy policy

The short version

We collect as little as we can get away with. Right now that is an email address if you join the waitlist, an email address if you subscribe to the journal, and anonymous, aggregated page analytics that do not use cookies and cannot identify you.

We do not sell data, we do not share it with advertisers, and we do not run advertising or tracking pixels on this site.

What we collect when you join the waitlist

The waitlist form collects your email address. It also records which page you were on when you signed up and where you arrived from, so we can tell which topics bring people who are actually interested. That second part is a page path and a referring domain — it is not a profile, and it is not linked to anything outside this site.

We use a waitlist address for one thing: to send you an invitation when early access opens. Joining the waitlist does not subscribe you to anything else — the journal newsletter below is a separate list you have to opt into yourself.

What we collect when you subscribe to the journal

The subscribe form at the bottom of the journal collects your email address, and the same two context fields the waitlist records: the page you subscribed from and the referring domain, if there was one.

This is a separate list from the early-access waitlist, and being on one does not put you on the other. We use it to send the journal — roughly one email a month, with new articles and product notes. Nothing else goes to this list, and it is never sold or shared.

Every email carries an unsubscribe link, and replying to ask works just as well. Unsubscribing removes the address; it does not affect your place on the waitlist if you are on it.

Analytics, and why there is no cookie banner

We use privacy-preserving, cookieless analytics hosted on our own infrastructure. It records page views, referrers, approximate country, and anonymous interaction events such as which calls to action get clicked and how far down an article people read.

It does not set cookies, does not use browser fingerprinting, does not follow you across other websites, and does not collect anything that identifies you as an individual. That is why this site has no cookie consent banner: there are no cookies to consent to.

If analytics are blocked in your browser, nothing on this site stops working.

What we do not do

To be explicit about the things people reasonably worry about in this category:

• We do not sell, rent or trade your personal data.
• We do not run advertising networks, retargeting pixels or social tracking widgets.
• We do not use cookies for tracking. The site sets no tracking cookies at all.
• We do not attempt to identify individual visitors from analytics data.
• We do not have access to any trading account, exchange key or broker credential from this website. The marketing site holds none of that.

Where the data is held

Waitlist signups are stored in our own self-hosted content and data platform, on servers we control. Analytics data is likewise self-hosted. Neither is handed to a third-party marketing platform.

Our hosting and content delivery providers necessarily process technical request data — IP address, user agent, timestamp — in order to serve pages and to filter abuse. That is standard server operation and those logs are retained for a short period.

How long we keep it

Waitlist entries are kept until early access has opened and invitations have gone out, and are removed once they no longer serve that purpose or when you ask us to remove yours.

Aggregated analytics are retained in aggregate form. Because they contain no personal identifiers, individual records are not something we can look up or delete.

Your rights

You can ask us what we hold about you, ask for it to be corrected, or ask for it to be deleted, and we will do it. Because the only personal data we hold is a waitlist email address, in practice this is usually a one-step request.

Depending on where you live you may have additional rights under laws such as the GDPR, including the right to object to processing and to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority.

Children

This site is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 18.

Changes to this policy

If what we collect changes, this page changes at the same time and the date at the top is updated. We will not quietly broaden what we collect and leave this page describing an older version.
