The numbers that tell you
whether to keep going
Reporting is only useful if it is honest about costs. Figures here are computed from filled orders with fees and financing included, which is why they will sometimes be less flattering than a backtest.
- 5
- core measures per strategy and account
- Filled only
- computed from real fills, never from signals
The view
Per strategy, per account, and across the book.
The same five measures at every level, so a strategy that works on one account and not another is visible rather than averaged away.
The measures
Five figures, and what each one is for.
Net P&L
After commission, spread and financing. The number your account actually moved by.
Net
Win rate
Useful only beside profit factor — a high win rate with a poor payoff ratio loses money slowly.
Context
Profit factor
Gross profit over gross loss. Tells you whether the winners are carrying the losers.
Ratio
Max drawdown
The deepest peak-to-trough on the account, which is the number that decides whether you can keep running it.
Depth
Expectancy
Average result per trade. The measure that survives changes in trade frequency.
Per trade
Provenance
Where the numbers come from.
Every figure is derived from orders that actually filled, at the price they filled. Signals that were refused, cancelled or never sent do not appear in performance — they appear in the event log, where they belong.
That separation matters: a strategy whose orders are frequently refused is a strategy that needs attention, and blending those refusals into a P&L figure would hide exactly that.
- Fees, spread and financing charged, never assumed away
- Refused and cancelled orders excluded from performance
- Exportable, so you can check the arithmetic yourself
